Remember when I shared that news about the Duke U Freshman Porn Star Story a little while ago? Well, at the time, the news spread across the internet we only knew the Duke University freshman as Lauren and her porn star alias as Aurora. Yesterday, she spoke up and spoke out for the entire world to hear.
The proud sex worker has baffled me again with a second blog entry on xoJane revealing herself. Be sure to check out the entire entry by clicking the link above, but take a look at her ending statement:
I am not your child or your property or your Madonna or your whore.
I stand for every woman who has ever been tormented for being sexual — for every woman who has been harassed, ostracized and called a slut for exerting her sexual autonomy — and for every woman who has been the victim of The Double Standard.
You want to see me naked. And then you want to judge me for letting you see me naked.
Society may feel like they are in control of my identity, but I refuse to let the dark corners of the Internet determine my future. Spend a minute Googling, and you will find these awful cesspools of hate and judgment and threats. These anonymous chat boards are determined to tell me what name I need to use (my birth name instead of my porn name), where I belong (I’m not good enough for Duke, apparently) and what I deserve (death, rape, humiliation).
The truth of the matter is this: I am one identity when I am a student. I’m another when I do porn. And no one controls either — but me.
Today, I am choosing to reveal my porn identity to the world.
My name is Belle Knox, and I wear my Scarlet Letter with pride.
Once again, she’s completely blown me away. Her true identity could have been found as early as two weeks ago if one were in that great of a search for it, but the courage it takes to address this hate head on is truly commendable and I’m personally astonished by her public display of strength.
I am a male in my sixties, but when I was in college I knew several girls who did a bit of entertaining for out of town GM executives. At that time STD was not a huge risk and antibiotics easily cured any.
I never looked down on them for this and I did not assume that they were easy.
If I was a young man I would be very much interested in this young lady, in part because she is attractive and in part her outspokenness.
Because of liability I assume that the porn industry routinely tests their performers for STD because not doing so would represent a huge liability. It is likely that she will have safer sex this way than messing with fellow students.
I have two daughters, and the gift I have given them is an education with no debt. Today student are coming out of college with staggering debt, so much debt that they will be hard pressed to buy a home or start families.
I submit that this discussion should be more about any school bleeding a student for $50,000 a year. There are too many people living high on the hog at the expense of future generations in the academic community, especially administrators.
If anyone at Duke is stupid enough to mess with this young lady she now has the resources to sue the crap out of them.
