Instant Coffee… Why would you name a book that’s not about coffee, Instant Coffee?
Well, aside from the fact that I love coffee, I named this book Instant Coffee: A Collection of Articles On Life As A Twentysomething because this book is intended to be easy-to-use, reliable, and good to the soul–kind of like Instant Coffee.

It’s also intended to be something you could read any time, anywhere. Whether you’re reading it for a quick reference, for a friendly reminder, or delving into it for some much needed soul searching, I hope that you’ll find this book a valuable resource to handling life in your twenties (or at any age)!

Interview with Isis Nezbeth

What is your writing process? Hmm, my writing process… well, I don’t really have a writing routine, but if I had to sum it up I suppose the first thing would be to get my coffee. I cannot start writing without a fresh cup of coffee. After that I like to pick my mood music, which usually ends up being a collaboration of 50’s tunes and Neo Soul. After that, if I don’t already have a topic on my heart, I give myself a few minutes to feel a topic and then I let the keyboard have it! That’s about it, in a nutshell!

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing? I am a product of U.S. Army soldiers. Both my mother and father served this country, so as you might imagine, I’ve done a great deal of moving around both in and out of the country. That on it’s own has molded me as an individual and influences the topics I write about. I don’t really have a place that I “grew up in” because my family was always being stationed here and there after just a few years. Nonetheless, I didn’t let that get me down. Moving around a lot has helped me to become a very contagious spirit. It’s easy for me to adapt to new places and new situations. It’s taught me to be grateful for the things I have presently and where the future will lead me. I love meeting new people, having new experiences, and making new memories. I do my best to show and share that in every piece of material that I write.

What do your fans mean to you? I don’t really look at my fans as fans. They’re my lifeline. Even if no one ever read the things I wrote, I’d still continue to create. That does not change the fact that nothing is more fulfilling than the love I feel from those people who do choose to read what I’ve written and support my dream. I am truly blessed to have such amazing supporters. The people who choose to accompany me along this journey and have watched me grow are the people I write for. They give me strength. They’re way more than “fans” to me… they’re my truest friends.

What do you read for pleasure? I love non-fiction, self-help, motivational types of reads. It doesn’t matter to me if it’s a book, an article, or a Facebook post. I like reads that are truthful, humorous and enlightening. I don’t really have a particular list of authors or books, etc. but if it falls along the lines of any of what I just described, I’m liable to read and share.

When did you first start writing? I started writing seriously about two years ago after graduating from college. I started a blog that ended up helping me learn my purpose in life–writing. It was unexpected, life-changing, and the best decision I’ve ever made.

What’s the story behind your latest book? My latest book is the first book that I’ve ever written. Really, it is a collection of articles that I’ve been writing since the very first day that I started writing. I had been sitting on the responsibility to actually go about publishing a book for so long and I had one friend who simply forced me to see my own greatness. For so long people have been encouraging me in my writing. People praised my skill and motivated me to continue writing, but for a while there it was difficult for me to see myself as a professional writer. After a good hundred cups of coffee and several articles later, I decided to take myself, my dream, and profession seriously. Thus, Instant Coffee.

What inspires you to get out of bed each day? You’ve got to keep your eye on the prize. Whatever dream it is that you want to accomplish is truly achievable. You go to bed with a dream and you wake up with a purpose. That is what life is about. That’s what motivates me to get up everyday. The fact that it is my choice to do what I love and to do it whole-heartedly is a privilege that I never want to let go of. More importantly, I want to help other people realize that that same privilege can be theirs too if they so desire it.

What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you? Honestly, with me being a new writer, I’d have to say that having a support system has been my most effective resource. You could have all types of social media accounts, promotions, and public events, but without people to help you share it with the world, it may not go as far as you anticipated. I’ve found a great appreciation for the people who have supported me throughout my book writing process and even in the early stages of me becoming a professional writer because they are the ones helping and motivating me to share my light and passion with the world.

How has Smashwords contributed to your success? Oh God, I cannot thank the creator enough. Smashwords gives writers like me the opportunity and the courage to see ourselves as the professional writer our hearts and minds know us to be. It is the opportunity to follow your dream and make that dream a reality. Again, I’m just so thankful for the resources that they provide. Amazing… simply amazing.

What are you working on next? I am going to be working on another collection that will be short screenplays. I’m looking forward to getting back into screenwriting. I love journalism, but screenwriting is another one of my passions. I was actually a theater minor in college and the few plays I had written in school got some really good feedback from my professors and peers so, I hope that it will open many other doors for me as well.

What is the greatest joy of writing for you? Writing saved my life. Writing gave me something to live for. Writing gave me something to look forward to. And every single time I write, whether on a computer or pen to paper, I thank God for allowing me to have found my calling. Nothing beats the joy of knowing why you’re on Earth.
