Chase the Dream That Keeps Calling You (Even If No One Gets it)

I have to write this humbly, because God knows I’ve run from my dream more times than I can count. But even with all the running, I never stopped chasing it. And before anything else, I want to say something I believe with my whole heart: everybody deserves a dream. Whether it’s a family and a white picket fence or becoming the CEO of a groundbreaking music label, we all deserve to want something that lights us up. Most dreams come from passion.

I’ve asked almost everyone I’ve had a “getting to know you” conversation with if they have a passion—and the number of people who say no never ceases to amaze me. It reminds me not to take mine for granted. It reminds me to keep going. And to be clear, there’s no judgment for anyone who hasn’t found their passion yet. In a world that keeps pushing us into survival mode, passion gets buried under responsibility. It’s completely understandable.

If that’s you, I want to challenge you with a question someone once asked me—a question that changed my life: “If currency wasn’t a factor, what kind of work would make you rich?” Sit with it. Pray on it. Dig deep. There is an answer.

Chasing your dreams isn’t easy, but here’s why you should do it anyway:

It doesn’t matter what people think about it. It matters how you feel about it.

I say this with my whole chest because I’ve lived it. I’ve questioned whether I should share certain experiences through my writing. I’ve wondered how people would receive it. I’ve wondered if it was “too much.” But at the end of the day, the life I live is mine. And yours is yours. Would you really want to let someone else’s opinion stop you from living the life you desire? I wouldn’t. Life is too short, and I deserve everything God has in store for me.

You actually don’t have to become an influencer.

This held me back for years. When I started writing a decade ago, social media wasn’t the monster it is now. AI didn’t exist. Going viral meant people genuinely connected with your work. Now, someone can recreate the same video 2,000 people have already done and go viral simply because they have a larger following. No disrespect to those who are doing it—get your coin, boo—but the facts are it doesn’t take the charisma and connection it once did to build your audience.

You’re allowed to have boundaries while you chase your dream. Social media helps, yes—but it shouldn’t cost you your peace. For me, that boundary is my children. I’m a words girlie—always have been. I don’t need to show every detail of my life to share my work. You don’t either.

Chasing your dreams doesn’t need approval—it needs commitment.

This one hits home. I’ve let life interrupt my dreams more than once, but commitment is the force behind every dream that becomes real. It means showing up tired. Sharing your work even when you doubt it. Truly believing in yourself. It means believing that with consistency, you will see the fruit.

Sure, it could fail—but what if it didn’t?

Silence the voice that says your niche is too saturated. Bury the fear that says you’ll fail before you begin. Your dream might not change the world, but it will change your world—and that’s enough. Don’t worry about what others journey looked like. Don’t underestimate what can happen if you commit. Most dreams don’t fail because they’re impossible; They fail because we stop too soon.

Your dream won’t wait for the “right time.” It becomes real when it becomes real to you.

The hardest part is starting. It’s easy to say, “I’ll build my business when the kids are older,” or “after things settle down.” But what you want matters too. You may have to take it slow—I’m realistic about that—but you can build yourself while you care for the people you love.

For me, that means working and writing in the quiet hours of the night after my girls are asleep and I’ve handled what I could for the day, but you get out what you put in. The sacrifices will be worth it. You’ll thank yourself later.

Ignoring the call won’t make the dream go away.

Passion builds dreams. Every athlete, every CEO, every creator started with a dream. When God puts something in your spirit, it’s hard to ignore. You can walk around it, run from it, or convince yourself it’s meant for someone else—but it will still call you. Don’t let fear rob you of a fulfilled life. Regret is a silent killer.

You don’t need the perfect plan. You just need a starting plan.
